The author draws you into her conversation she is having with her daughters who are the voice of reason. They make comments that the reader would be thinking and wondering about. It keeps the reader involved in the flow of the conversation and makes you want to know more about what life is like inside a cult. It really takes the reader inside the workings of the cult, and answers a lot of questions about why and how a person could and would get involved. I laughed at some of the comments made by the author’s daughter, Mahlia, and I also cried when the author gets overwhelmed with emotion. I felt like I was inside the cult and inside the ashram while I was getting to know the author, her two daughters and their loving relationship.

This is a riveting account of the cult phenomenon of the 1970’s. The author engages in a conversation with her daughters in a unique and creative way to tell her story. Her story describes the effects of mind control and manipulation. The author details her struggle with coming to terms with her faith. This is a must read for anyone who has had a similar experience, knows someone who has had a similar experience, or anyone who struggles with coming to terms with their faith.
